Arizona Marijuana Company Buys Entire California Town for Marijuana Enthusiasts

Nipton Marijuana

American Green Inc., a marijuana company based out of Arizona, just bought the entire town of Nipton, California, for the purchase price of $5 million. They will spend the next 18-months and $2.5 million transforming the tiny border town between California and Nevada into a destination for marijuana enthusiasts.

The town has a population of only 20, is only 120 acres, and only includes a hotel, mineral baths, school and general store, according to Bloomberg. But American Green plans to build some business and keep the town’s existing structures. Renewable energy will be used to power the town.

Stephen Shearin of American Green said, “We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’”

Marijuana is moving far away from the shadows the industry once operated under. With eight states now having legal recreational marijuana, companies have the opportunity to help marijuana become more mainstream.

A new facility will be created to manufacture CBD-infused water, and Nipton will also become a location to produce edibles, have artist-in-residence programs and varying retail stores. American Green’s goal is to “demonstrate the benefits cannabis can provide.”

American Green is hoping the investment they’re making will turn into a big profit. Shearin said, “The Gold Rush built this city. The Green Rush can keep it moving the way people envisioned it years ago.”
